Cricketer Farm – Supreme Champion


Somerset cheesemaker Cricketer Farm, has won the coveted Supreme Champion award at the 2007 Royal Bath & West Show.  Cricketer, one of the UK's leading traditional cheesemakers, won a huge clutch of 14 awards at the UK renowned competition, including the top accolade of Supreme Champion for its Block Farmhouse Cheddar.  The list of awards includes five firsts and the Dairy Crest Perpetual Cup.  

"Hundreds of cheesemakers from all over the country enter the dairy awards at the Royal Bath & West Show and we are absolutely thrilled to have been presented with the Supreme Champion award," said Simon O'Brien from Cricketer Farm.  "This year we celebrate 60 years of traditional cheesemaking at Cricketer and this award is a tribute to the continued hard work and passion of our whole team, from the local farmers who produce our milk to our master cheesemakers," continued Simon. 

The Royal Bath & West Show is one of the biggest events in the dairy calendar and every year hundreds of cheeses compete for the coveted awards and trophies.  This year, acknowledged dairy specialists tasted, discussed and judged 67 individual classes including Farmhouse Cheddars, Half Fat Cheeses, Soft Cheeses, Cream, Butter, Yogurt and Ice Cream.  Along with the awards for its traditional cheeses, Cricketer Farm also won a first for its Half Fat cheese and its new Mega Cheddar, a cheese enriched with Omega-3 which has been created by Cricketer specifically for children.    

"We are immensely proud of this achievement.  It is like winning an Oscar or the FA Cup as far as our cheesemakers are concerned and it is even more important as we have won in our home county.   Not only do we move with the times by making fabulous tasting healthier cheeses, but we are also committed to making fine farmhouse cheese," finished Simon.   

Cricketer Farm, situated at the edge of the Quantock hills, the first ever Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), has been making traditional and innovative cheeses for 60 years.  Each of Cricketer's cheeses is made to a traditional recipe using full fat, semi-skimmed or skimmed milk, producing a range of Farmhouse Cheddar cheeses, half fat cheeses, quarter fat cheeses and 2% fat cheeses.
