Two cheese shows down and
Somerset based Cricketer Farm is already topping last years award success with
a total of 14 wins and two trophies.
Known for its delicious, smooth, rich Cheddars, the award-winning
cheesemaker won firsts in the Farmhouse Cheesemakers PDO (Protected Designation
of Origin) and Mature Cheddar classes at the Devon County Show and a Special
Prize and Gold for its Winter Cheddar at the nationally celebrated Royal Bath
& West Show. Cricketer also shared
The Cheesemakers Trophy for Excellence in Cheesemaking and The Dairy Crest
Perpetual Challenge Cup with Dorset based
cheesemakers Ashley Chase.
“This is a great achievement for our cheesemakers and we are absolutely delighted to have been presented with these awards,” said Jo Carter from Cricketer Farm. “This year we are celebrating 100 years of cheesemaking for the Villis family, who have played an invaluable part in our awards success and in recognition of this we launched the Villis Family Trophy at the National Cheese Awards at The Royal Bath & West Show. Brothers Anthony, Richard and Nigel were invited to judge the class for the best traditional (bandage wrapped) cheese and we were thrilled to present the Trophy to Mary Quicke from Quickes in Devon,” finished Jo.
Made to a traditional recipe which has been passed down through generations of master cheesemakers, Cricketer Farm has been making cheese for over 60 years. Cricketer is committed to supporting its local farmers and uses milk sourced from dairy herds that graze on the lush pastures surrounding the village of Nether Stowey and neighbouring countryside.
